Guild is the historic heart of the Haletown community in Marion County, on the Tennessee River just south of Jasper. The name dates to the early 1900s, when a village called Guild — named for Josephus Conn Guild, Sr., the engineer who led the dam effort — housed the workers building Hales Bar Dam. Completed in 1913 as one of the Tennessee Valley's first major hydroelectric projects, Hales Bar was later bought by the Tennessee Valley Authority and replaced by Nickajack Dam in the 1960s; the dam's remaining portion is now home to a marina. Today the Marion Memorial Bridge carries US-41, US-64, and US-72 over the river at Haletown, TN-134 connects the highways to I-24, and the Guild post office (ZIP 37340, opened 1906) serves the area — including the new River Gorge Ranch community rising on the bluffs above the river. TriStateDumpIt delivers roll-off dumpster rentals throughout Guild — for new-home construction debris, mountain-lot land clearing, home renovations, river-property cleanouts, and estate jobs.
